GRADE 7

Introduction

Grade 7 combines the skills built throughout the Grades framework and aims to encourage students to begin to integrate all aspects of their training to date.

Working in a more ‘joined up’ manner, the material focusses on more intricate spatial pathways, encouraging students to be aware of the space as whole, through the use of weight, off balance, the body into and out of the floor and by bringing an increased awareness of the dynamic range to their movement.

Opening of Class

The Opening of class is an important element of each Grade. It prepares the students for each session, allowing them to leave what has happened outside of the studio behind and focus on their body and being in the present moment. It can also help to create a safe and secure environment within the studio setting.

The Opening of class can begin in anyway a teacher see’s fit, it does not need to take on a specific form. It could be as simple as asking students to close their eyes and set an intention for the session or simply encouraging stillness and silence for a short period before beginning.
